Coffee Festival at Sutherland

10 August, 2014 (Sunday)

On Sunday we gave chado demonstrations at the Sutherland Coffee Festival. There were many food and coffee stalls in a park. We set up misono-dana in the Japanese garden that Sutherland sister city’s Chuo-ku donated. It was a warm day and many people turned up.

We demonstrated with Misono-dana, and many people interested to see Japanese Tea Ceremony performance and listened the explanation of the Tea ceremony history with background of Japanese Culture.

Chado demonstration for Koto Concert “Song of Winds”

Chado demonstration for Satsuki Odamura Koto Ensemble at Kindlehill Performance Space, Wentworth Falls, Blue Mountains.

Date: Sunday, 18 May, 2014
Venue: Kindlehill Performance Space at Steiner School
8 Lake Street, Wentworth Falls
Time: 2:00 – 4:00 pm

The event was very successful with a full audience (110 people), who were not only from the nearby community but also from Sydney.

The event comprised the Koto Performances by the members of the Satsuki Odamura Koto Ensemble with Bronwyn Kirkpatrick as a guest Shakuhachi player, and a Chado demonstration. The Chado demonstration was performed with background music called “Chaondo” played and sung by the Koto and Shamisen players. This was the first attempt for both the Koto Ensemble and the Association.
